I came to book cover design a little bit by accident, over a decade ago now while working as a photographer and image editor. One of my clients asked if I’d be able to put a book cover together for a Kindle E-book and from there it grew into full time career.

With more than 13 years of experience, giving authors the cover they envisage for every genre from science fiction to recipes, fitness to romance has become a passion.

I am UK based, currently living in the beautiful Durham countryside with my son, our beagle and two naughty cats.

To have a book cover designed, you’ll need to provide various elements and considerations.

For the best outcome first time around here’s a list of things I suggest you supply:

  1. Title and Subtitle: Provide the title of your book and any subtitle you wish to include on the cover. Make sure this text is finalized, as changes to the title can affect the design.
  2. Author Name: Include the author’s name as you’d like it to appear on the cover.
  3. Taglines or Quotes: If you have any taglines, quotes from the book, or endorsements from reviewers that you want to include on the cover, provide them.
  4. Genre and Tone: Clearly communicate the genre and overall tone of your book. This helps me to create a cover that reflects the essence of your story.
  5. Visual References: Collect examples of book covers you like, even if they are from different genres. This helps convey your aesthetic preferences and the mood you’re aiming for.
  6. Preferred Fonts: If you have specific font styles you like, mention them. Fonts can greatly impact the cover’s look and feel. There are many fonts that are free for commercial use.
  7. Images or Artwork: If you have specific images, illustrations, or artwork you want to include, provide them. If you don’t have them, I’d suggest browsing shutterstock.com for ideas and to see what is available for licensing. All images I provide are licensed through shutterstock.com under their Standard License.
  8. Color Preferences: Indicate any color preferences or specific color palettes that resonate with your story.
  9. Book Size and Format: Specify the dimensions of your book (for print or digital formats). Print formats require your final page count to allow for accurate sizing.
  10. Cover Elements: Decide if you want the front cover only or a full wrap-around cover design that includes the spine and back cover.

Have all these elements ready? Contact me or place an order and I’ll send your first draft asap!
